The Role You Play

The Role You Play

We are not perfect. There is always something we wish to improve about ourselves. The little details stand out to us. We wake up everyday and see the same person gazing back in the mirror. We ponder about the outcome of the day. Mornings are hard. We look messy and subconsciously feel messy.

Most people have at least one thing they want to change about themselves. Perhaps you want to be taller. Maybe, you consider changing your hairstyle. Some people might even want to change their entire physical appearance. It’s ok to see your own flaws. There is nothing wrong with wanting change. The way you feel about yourself is very important.

I’m a tall guy. I slouch. Im pretty slim. I got boring brown eyes. My smile is not perfect at all. I wish I had a defined jawline. I can keep listing every detail about my physical appearance. The point i’m trying to make is that i’m not special in anyway. I’m just another face in the crowd. For a long time I was disgusted with my own reflection. I looked down on myself. I always had negative thoughts about myself. Honestly, it was very damaging. I had low self esteem. I hated everything about myself.

Throughout the years of getting to know myself, I learned something very important. My physical appearance did not matter. It should have never influenced me the way that it did. What I realized is that the person I am inside is what defines me. Most, if not all of us feel some sort of disappointment with ourselves. We get so distracted by our outer flaws that we completely disregard who we are inside.

I felt better about myself when I realized the role I play in other people’s lives. I was that person who couldn’t stand to see someone upset. I always went out of my way to make people smile. I was there when someone really needed me. I was able to have deep conversations with people. I projected comfort. I was a beacon of trust to so many people. Many opened up to me in a personal way. It was very comforting to know that i’m not the only one who wishes to improve.

So many people hold an ocean of discontent in their lives. They smile as you pass by but silently cry for help. We live in a world where emotions are looked down on. Our friends get tired of us when we constantly tell them how miserable we feel. Most do this without realizing how much it hurts the person trying to open up. They already deal with their own burdens and would rather not have to deal with that of others.

If you change the role you play in people’s lives, you will feel a wave of improvement. It is very rewarding to see someone smile because of you. Put your own burdens aside. Be there for someone. Don’t give up on them no matter how lost they may seem. We all need a little push sometimes. You will see yourself differently. You are a leader in the making. Putting yourself before others is a bold move to make. It helps shape you and usually leads to solutions for your own life. People will appreciate you. Look at yourself the way they see you. A person who invest in others is seen as a true friend. You may see flaws, but others see you. They see who you are inside. Be a pioneer of change and you will see yourself change.

God, I thank you for making me who I am today. Even if I have many flaws and imperfections, I know that you use me to do good and be of a blessing in the lives of others. Help me to improve and become a better person. I want to live a righteous life. I want to be a foundation that others can trust. Turn me into a beacon of light. I want to be a leader to all those who are lost and trying to find their way. I pray for your love, wisdom, and compassion. Amen!
